Ski jumper Sara Takanashi clinched the World Cup ladies'individual event Jan. 8 at Oberstdorf, Germany, chalking up her third consecutive win and 49th career victory, four shy of the world record. Takanashi, 20, said she got an omikuji fortune-telling slip at a shrine on New Year's. She said she “will follow (its) advice and take care of my health and do my best,”to win the overall World Cup title and a medal at the world championships.

一年の幕開けにふさわしいニユースです。ノルディックスキー・ジヤンプ女子の高梨沙羅選手(20)がドイツで開催されたワールドカツプ(Ｗ杯)第6戦で優勝、3連勝で今季5勝目をあげました。通算でＷ杯49勝に記録を伸ばし、歴代最多となる53勝まであとわずか。今年、さらなる飛躍が期待される高梨選手は今大会に先立ち、初詣でおみくじを引き、「勝負事は可もなく、不可もなく」だったと言います。「おみくじに書いてあった通り、体調管理に気をつけて、頑張りたい」
