Comedian Terumi Ishii got her big break in 2016 impersonating presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. To perfect her act, Ishii carefully studied Clinton's expressions, and even jotted down key phrases from her speeches. She said she was particularly moved by Clinton's call to create an inclusive society :“Build bridges, not walls.”In our first issue this year, we feature profiles of Japanese who in their own way are trying to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

お笑い芸人の石井てる美さん(33)は、米大統領選に挑戦したヒラリー・クリントン氏のものまねで昨年、お茶の間での知名度を上げました。ネタをっくるにあたり、本人の表情だけではなく、スビーチで気に入ったフレーズをメモしました。中でもクリントン氏の「壁ではなく、橋をつくろう」と共生社会の大切さを訴えた言葉がお気に入りとか。今年最初の号は、立ちはだかる壁を乗り越えて、可能性をフルに生かそうとする日本人にスポットをあてました。
